Show at Avante Art Gallery, June 19th

Damn, I hate art shows- especially when I'm in one. Right now I'm terrified something will go wrong, or no one will show up, and I'd like to crawl under a rock. I feel pretty small in this this town full of great talent, many artists with much more ability and pull than I will ever have. But I need to take my man-pill & get on with it... so I got a buncha beer:

Colin Michael Shaw- Assorted Mixed Media Works
Artist Reception Sponsored by Schlafly Brewery
Friday, June 19th from 7 – 10:30 PM
Avante Art Gallery
7225 Manchester Road
Maplewood. MO 63143
Light refreshments will be served.

A rare public showing of the artist’s eclectic mixed media and collage work showcased at www.shawart.com “My paintings are about a whole body of work- the work of my life. They are about color and design, materials and methods, exploration and experimentation. They are about the deep and unseen parts of the individual- they are about the hearts of men.”

Good luck with the show. I'm hoping to be able to make it. Don't sweat about attendance: creating art and promoting art are 2 seperate things. If no one shows up, it's not because you failed to make something worth seeing. I don't think that will be the case though.

Congratulations on your show. I am hoping to come. Since I've been working hard to loosen up my schedule lately, I think I may actually make it. :)

Dan is right - attendance doesn't mean anything. There are so many factors at play: other shows (if there are too few people stay home and if there are too many people get selective), weather, timing, publicity...

And there's no need for you to feel small or insignificant. We all go through that, every single one of us; I have even seen well-known established professionals question themselves from time to time. So don't second-guess and measure your successes (and failures) against yourself and not others or you will likely be disappointed (no matter how great your personal achievements are). We are all our own worst critics and there is always room to learn.
